Another case of fraudulent behavior appeared at Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague, where a taxi driver used the ignorance of tourists and charged almost nine thousand crowns for their trip to a hotel in Prague 5. The usual fare is about 550 crowns. To further demonstrate this long-standing problem, the tourists themselves brought the car to police at the airport terminal, as the price seemed suspicious. The city police reported on the case.
Although the taxi driver was wringing his hands, such dishonest drivers are spreading a bad image of all the taxis.
“On Monday evening, the Police of the Czech Republic summoned police officers from the Taxi Team to help. Foreign tourists turned to them, who did not seem to confirm the asked price for a trip from Václav Havel Airport to a hotel in Stroupežnická Street in Prague 5.
“They had paid 8700 crowns for the trip through a payment terminal. Team Taxi patrol had used the tourist’s notification once again. Using the description of the vehicle and the data from the receipt, the officers contacted the taxi company manager and traced the dishonest driver. He confessed to the patrol officers. He was also willing to return the amount and apologize for his behavior. Which, in the presence of the patrol, was subsequently done,” said J. Ernestová, spokeswoman for the Prague City Police.
